A new collaboration with Habitat for Humanity to help Egypt
Today, the partnership is expanding and after Brazil, Australia, China, Lebanon, Poland and the United States, the Foundation will support a new rehabilitation project in Egypt.
This reconstruction project in Egypt will benefit 30 households in difficulty. The aim is to provide them with a healthy and safe home.
The support provided by the Somfy Foundation and the local subsidiary amounts to €10,000 with a €5,000 contribution from the subsidiary supported equally by the Foundation. It will therefore enable these people to live in decent conditions, have access to drinking water and be safe in their homes.
The new buildings are durable and made from locally available materials. They consist of a solid wooden roof, tiled cement floors and plaster walls. They provide a complete plumbing system and enough space to accommodate a whole family.
In Egypt, nearly 20 million people live in substandard housing, which endangers the safety of families and causes serious health problems. The very structure of the habitations is fragile with roofs made of branches or even sugar cane, mud floors and sometimes no doors or windows. These houses do not provide security, comfort or hygiene as they often lack running and drinking water and are not adapted to accommodate large families and often their livestock.
